FLEXVOLT XR is a new range of cordless tools, batteries and chargers which are based on a 54 volt lithium-ion battery platform. All the tools on the FLEXVOLT platform are going to be top of the range, 54v, cordless and brushless giving you incredible runtimes, unrivaled power and increased capacities across the board.
This battery the FLEXVOLT DCB546 is the same length and width as the 18v Li-ion batteries from the original XR range, with a little extra height to fit in those additional 38 volts of power. Its not only a similar size and weight to the 18v batteries, but its also fully compatible with the entire 18v range! So yes, you can use the FLEXVOLT battery with your normal 18v XR range tools. To achieve this Dewalt have given it a special limiter on it to make sure that when you connect it to an 18v tool, it only transmits 18 volts so you won’t damage your tools.
It can also be charged by any 18v XR charger that you may already have! – Charge times TBC!
The DCB546 is a 6.0Ah battery which will give users increased runtime over any of the 18v XR 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah lithium batteries.
